What’s in a Name?
“Big wheel keep on turnin'
Proud Mary keep on burnin'
Rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river…”
Perhaps you are familiar with the Creedence Clearwater Revival single, Proud Mary, a renowned 1969 release. Our Hinckley Picnic Boat Proud Mary, however, is actually named after the Naval PBR Boat Proud Mary aboard which Captain Don’s father patrolled the Mekong delta as a young Navy Officer during the Vietnam War. Captain Don’s father, Donald “Pat” Patterson, Jr. who passed away in 2008, grew up in Annapolis and was the original owner of our Proud Mary picnic boat. We honor Pat’s legacy and love for the water by instilling in our guests a similar desire for excellence, service, and a love of the unique maritime richness that the Chesapeake Bay offers.
